I am itching to sew, it's a little bit ridiculous. Well, I guess not considering how little of it that I've been able to do lately (Hitchhiker's Jacket just wet my appetite).
I'm moving today. Tonight, I'm setting up the basics of my new sewing room (more info on that later), and tomorrow (hopefully), I'm sewing my own version of the Tiramisu! I'm so jealous of all of you who have been making it lately.
It'll be made out of this denim-like knit. I'm actually surprised to
have found it in our local fabric store, since their knit fabric
selection fits on one 3 foot shelf (and there's a lot of rib knit and
polyester on that shelf). I took home the last 2.5 m of it. I don't want to think about how much it cost me, thanks.
AND, I bought wool to start knitting myself a sweater. Uh yeah, today was not a good day on my bank account. Haha oh well I HAVE A JOB NOW. Anywho, it's Cascade 220 Heathers (\o/), in a lovely burgundy with blue fibres spun throughout. I love it! Also, it was one of the only colours that had enough skeins for my project. I'll share more about the pattern another time.
So yay, creating again! I'll keep you posted about the Tira progress tomorrow. :)
Have a good move, and create a fabulous sewing space! Love that yarn, too. I've gotten to the point with fabric purchases that I prefer to head to the quilt store OR buy online - the local chain has tons of ugly fleece, and not a whole lot more.
ReplyDeleteI'd still rather support our piddly little local fabric shop. They're the only garment fabric store that survived Walmart's fabric section addition years ago when the Beast Store moved into town (mostly because they're known for their repairs and alterations, which is cool), and they do have a lot of basics and a wicked zipper selection. But it's a crappy selection, and I might have to attempt online shopping. Although between shipping and customs to get it to Northern Canada, I'm not certain if I'm actually going to save any money. :P
DeleteA new sewing space - how exciting! You must post a piccie of it once you are set up...
ReplyDeleteYes Ma'am, will do! :D
DeleteWow-- I would have had no idea that your fabric is a knit, if you hadn't said so! It really looks just like denim. You could totally play it up with contrast topstitching and have the most comfortable "denim" dress on the planet!
ReplyDeleteI'm jealous of the people who have been sewing the Tira, too. I have it, but have waaaaay more consuming projects on the table atm. If I do have some time before the summer, I definitely want to squeeze this one in.
Oooo, good idea about the topstitching! I think I even have that gold denim topstitching thread too. :D
DeleteI really really need a housecoat. Like, really. But instead, I'm sewing the Tira because I'm so jealous of everyone elses. lol
When you finally get around to sewing your housecoat, I can't recommend Burda 2653 highly enough. It goes together fast, and the best part-the hood. Oh yes and it is full length, which is such a novelty for me. Looking forward to seeing your Tira.
DeleteI'll keep that in mind when I want a warmer one. For now, I'm looking at something a little bit slinker and shorter, made from that lovely pink satiny fabric you sent me. ;) I'm looking more for something to toss on first thing in the morning so I'm not booting around the house in my undies! We have very big windows. :D
DeleteOoo, big plans! Yay! I'm so glad things are coming together for you---maybe one of these days they'll pull together for me. ;)
ReplyDeleteCan't wait to see your Tira!
I've been fantasy sewing (and knitting for myself instead of gifts) for a long time, so it's nice to actually put some of the plans in action!
DeleteThings will come together for you soon! Post-graduation is a tough time, especially when you're switching gears from academic to industry (at least it was for me). I wish you the best of luck!
