Now that I have a working sewing space, I'm itching to get back to sewing. And of course, I want to sew with the pattern (Simplicity 4888) and fabric (kaleidoscope cotton) that Kristin sent me the other day! So I'm combining them. However, I felt like the kalidescope fabric is just too crazy on it's own, so I've picked up some black cotton to create some sort of yoke to incorporate into the blouse. I wasn't sure what kind of design I wanted though, so I traced out the blouse pattern and played a bit:
Although I planned to do it on all of them, I only coloured in the fabric print on #4 because THAT took me about 15 minutes. But it gives a pretty good idea of what the finished top would look like.
While I do like versions 1-3, I really liked the mock sweetheart yoke version (4-6), and played around with sleeve and collar colours.
Which design do you like best, 1, 2, 3, or 4? If you like the sweetheart version, which sleeve and collar treatment looks best? I'm also considering using piping, and the colour of the collar will determine whether I use black piping or the coloured print piping.
SO MANY DECISIONS! How do you designers make up your mind?!
I like numbers 3 & 4 with the #5 sleeve/collar treatment. I'm a sucker for a sweetheart neckline!
ReplyDeleteI didn't look too closely at 3 after I sketched it, but now that I look at it again, I really like it! The only reason I'd consider #4 more is that the more curved lines reflect the fabric print and the peter pan collars more. Thanks for your input, and drawing my attention to #3 again! :D
DeleteI'm with Bex. I love version 4 and sleeve/collar 5. No matter what, it looks like it's going to be way cute! Congratulations on your new sewing space.
ReplyDeleteThanks! I've been torn over what to do with the sleeves, so I'm glad to have other people's input. :)
DeleteI like version 6. In version 6 the black peter pan collar matches the black top part of the blouse so it's more subdued, to balance out the fun print at the bottom, but that's just me.
ReplyDeleteIf you pick versions 4 - 6, i'd go ahead and make the main part of the blouse and try it on and then hold up scrap fabric of the kaleidoscope and the black over your shoulders for the sleeves and near your neck for the collar to get a better feel for what you like best. Better yet, make an interchangeable collar and do one in each fabric!
Ooo, good call with holding up fabric to decide on the collar fabric! I'm not sure about an interchangable collar (although having the underside a different colour might be interesting). Thanks for the suggestions!
DeleteI'd consider the sweetheart neckline with same fabric on the sleeves as above the bust. This will give the shoulders more stability, especially if you use a sheer.
ReplyDeleteI'm planning on just using a solid black cotton of the same weight as the colourful print. But I do like the black sleeves too. :) Thanks for the input!
DeleteI have no idea, but if you are back to sewing, do you still want that print fabric that you fell in like with a while back? If so, email me your mailing address and it will be on its way to you soon.
ReplyDeleteOh, you're a sweetheart. Of course I had to go take a look at it again, and it's as pretty as I remember. I would love it if you're willing to part with it! Email to be sent shortly. :D
Deletewhat a fantastic idea!! i love the black and kaleidoscope together.... while i like version 4 the best i think, i also think any of them will be lovely!!
ReplyDeleteI was wondering what you thought of my design(s)! I'm glad to actually use the fabric and the pattern you sent. Usually they get put aside for other planned projects, but these two told me immediately that they were in love and wanted to be together, NOW. lol
DeleteThanks for your input, and also for the inspiration and supplies! I should just dedicate it to you. :D
3!!! It will suit you marvellously! The V will suit your shape and the style as well. :)
ReplyDeleteI really like number 4 with the collar and sleeves like on number 5.
ReplyDeleteI like number 3. Would make that one for myself. lol! I really need to do a yoked top and get over my fear of them. Doing a godet for the refashion contest has cured my fear of doing a godet.
